Douglas had a long and successful career in the Air Force, serving for twenty years in various locations. He decided to settle down in Montgomery, Alabama, forty miles from his hometown of Tuskegee. He joined the Blount Strange Automotive Group in 1990 and held different positions, such as salesman, sales manager, finance manager and vice president & general manager. He left the car industry in 2000 and became the vice president of business services at the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce (MACC) and the executive director of the Montgomery Area Center for Entrepreneurial Development (a MACC-operated organization). He retired in 2015 and now works parttime with Elite Automotive Group.
